Spencer Tunick - Everyday people DVD. (August 2016)
On saturday the 1st and sunday the 2nd of May 2010 Spencer Tunick was commissioned to photograph an art installation to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the building of "The Lowry " in Salford,England.
I bought this dvd from the gift shop at The Lowry for the price of £12 during the " Everyday people " exhibition (12/7/2010 - 26/9/2010) The running time is 13 minutes. It is a documentation of the two day shoot (photographic) from the art installation. It is a basic point and shoot ( static - with a few zoom in's) with no commentary or graphics. The audio, like the visuals is raw and largley unedited with all the wind noise etc left in place. The video is very disappointing. It is a very similar quality to that of the average person whilst on holiday recording a panoramic view of a windy shoreline. With very little effort this production could have been far superior. They could have added a number of elements to enhance the layout. A breif history of T.S Lowery ( the artist the building was named after), The Lowery centre and Spencer Tunick. An interview With Spencer Tunick, the Lowery staff (organisers) and some of the participants, some of whom had interesting reason for getting their kit off in public would have also been an improvement. It would have been nice (for those not present on the two days) to know the locations of the shoot. Who would know that the cover photo of the dvd was shot on the car park of Manchester city FC. This dvd will probably only appeal to those of us that participated and Spencer Tunick fans but with some of the extra input mentioned above I am sure it would have been of interest to a wider audience. Although the content is rough and ready it is still a nice memento to own as a memory of those enjoyable two days in May. The dvd is no longer on sale at The Lowry and at the time of this review there are no copies on ebay nor has there been in the recent past.
